John Bowes

John Bowes is the founder and CEO of Freight Trucking Inc. John has extensive knowledge as a logistics executive in LTL, truckload, 3PL, and warehousing verticals.

At FreightWaves John was one of the six original founding associates. Brought on as the CCO in March of 2017, and also as the Executive Vice President and General Manager he made key contributions in the scaling of its original vision. By using his knowledge of the transportation industry, John helped the company grow to become the largest media and commentary platform for the logistics industry.

With over 30 years of experience in the logistics industry, John began his career as a delivery truck driver and quickly moved into management for the Tom Duffy Co., a west coast distribution company.

In 1993, he joined CSI Reeves, a trucking company owned by the Preston Yellow Corp., where he held management positions in sales and operations before the company was acquired by U.S. Xpress in 1997. That acquisition led to the creation of Xpress Global Systems, a wholly-owned subsidiary of U.S. Xpress, where John served in many leadership positions including West Coast Regional Manager, Director of West Coast Operations, and Executive Vice President.

In 2006, he became President and then CEO of Xpress Global Systems. During his tenure, XGS grew to become the largest 3PL and LTL provider in the floor-covering industry in the United States.

In 2015, John’s extensive knowledge and bottom to top experience was instrumental in the sale of XGS to a private equity group and in executing its transfer to new ownership.

John is excited to once again be at the helm in an industry that he knows and loves. Having come up the ranks from driver to CEO, John has a unique understanding and perspective on effective leadership. He knows that the key to his success has been his focus on creating strong teams, mentoring effective leadership, valuing business relationships, prioritizing customers’ needs, and exceeding expectations. He looks forward to continuing that success by launching Freight Trucking, Inc in 2021 and plans to create state-of-the-art 3PL services, focused on adding value to customers’ needs.  John will accomplish this by employing the best teams, as well as by utilizing the newest technology available within the industry..
